Capitol Reef Gifford House Resident Nell
The pioneers who settled in the remote Fruita valley thrived in Capitol Reef's harsh environment. Together, Fruita's 10
families farmed, depending on each other for necessities. But life in Fruita wasn't all work. The Gifford family made
their home a hub for social events. They hosted dinners and game nights, and always made sure to set aside time for
quilting or a round of baseball. And although it has changed, this pioneer spirit of Fruita is still very much alive today in
Capitol Reef's historic orchards, the Gifford House, and its sense of community.
Not all who wander are lost, Some are just looking for pie.
